The "Fly" Factor?

We’ve all seen it. It’s been in Myspace captions, Facebook picture comments, statuses, in profiles, away messages, and pretty much anywhere people can write words to describe themselves or members of their crew-the word “fly.” According to urbandictionary.com, “fly” is defined as “cool, in style.” Even though this is true, I don’t believe it’s an excuse for EVERYONE to claim that they are fly, especially when they aren’t. Typically, I’ve noticed that most of the people who claim they are fly really aren’t at all. Unfortunately, there is no clear way to determine if someone is fly or not, so I’ve put together a couple of characteristics that I personally think weed people out.

I believe that being “fly” is the demeanor in which you carry yourself, and it has a lot to do with consistency. If you are well put together, looking neat and clean, hair done, shoe game right, outfit nice, on a REGULAR BASIS, then you are fly. We all have our off days, but come on! You can’t claim to be fly if you only get fly on the weekends. If you look like a bum five days out of the week, and decide that the weekend is the only time to put on something decent, then you are NOT fly, you are simply perpetrating. This alone eliminates half of the people I know from being fly…on to the next qualification.

People who are fly do NOT need to say they are fly; they exude “flyness” with their lifestyle and presence. When you see them, you already know they’re fly and quite frankly, I think it’s dumb to state the obvious. Let other people determine if you’re fly or not. That doesn’t mean you need to go dressing yourself up just to make sure that people like what you have on. Wear what’s comfortable to you and what you like, and you’ll be confident in yourself. Trust, other people will notice this, and will compliment you even at times when you don’t think you look up to par. However, it is NOT okay to say that you’re fly every chance you get…chances are you’re going to look stupid, and when people see you looking a mess, they’re going to laugh at you because you claim to be oh so fly.

Now before you get all bent out of shape, understand that we are stating our OPINION, a right that everyone has. Ours may be much closer to the truth than others but hey, what can you do? We aren’t trying to crush any spirits; rather, we are helping those who believe that they are on a level that they haven’t exactly reached. If you agree with us and have some more qualifications to being fly, let us know. If you think our qualifications are wack or a little off, let us know. Just remember, if you’re sitting there getting all riled up over this entry, chances are, you qualify as a perpetrator. If you want to disregard this entry because you think that you are killing the game with your fashion sense, by all means, go ahead. But don’t say we didn’t warn you.

"just remember, if you’re sitting there getting all riled up over this entry, chances are, you qualify as a perpetrator." That had to be the most important part of your post. I was laughing at the entire thing due to the poignant points that you made. I can definitely see this fake "fly" epidemic going on. A lot of ppl just wear what's in cause it's wat's in, but like you said it's all about comfort. lol...cool post thou, i can dig...

you guys are absolutely right. most people these days save up all month to follow some trend and when the trend changes they're the last one to get on it. but anyway fashion is NOT a label, and i'm tired of everyone thinking it is. and i mean if you're fly, good job. however if you're not don't buy one pair of designer jeans and designer glasses, where them to one events, take pics and say "flyness at its best" or some other crap. honestly if you are well put together, consistent, and have confidence that's TRUE flyness.... just my humble opinion

it's not about fly. it's about that charisma. simply put.

fly died a minute ago. even when back to the future was made, mcfly was created, and one-upped fly. i'm just saying. i'm about my charisma.

and you should be too, if you had that blast off vol. 1 mixtape. you should probably go to the blog and find it, using that search tool. i'm just saying though.

Ugh you are so right...I am so tired of looking at myspace pages saying 'fresh to death' 'I am a fly b*tch' meanwhile they have on a shirt from rainbow or jeans from the $10.00...I mean if you can't afford expensive things that's cool...not everyone is rich but don't run around claiming you are the 'flyest' thing around....oh another thing maybe you should blog about people who claim they are 'balling out of control' meanwhile last month they had an over draft in their bank account...lmao
